Give Kyle Brindza Some Credit

There are currently several tweets on Twitter regarding Notre Dame kicker, Kyle Brindza.  Some are encouraging, but others are not

Brindza has struggled at times.  He missed two field goals against BYU, one against the Sooners, and one yesterday against Pitt.  He also missed an extra point against Pitt.  That being said, he has also made field goals when they were critical.  The one he made against BYU was part of the 17-14 win.  The one he made in the first OT yesterday kept the game going.  In my opinion, he deserves credit as much or more than he deserves criticism.

Most importantly, Brian Kelly has stuck with his sophomore kicker.  Could it be that Kelly knows that Brindza, like quarterback, Golson, will continue to improve?  He continues to start him and put him on the field in critical situations, which I believe says a lot.

The Irish are young team and have performed inconsistently, but yet they continue to find a way to win.  From week to week, different players are stepping up and getting the job done.  Every Irish player has had a role to play in the team getting to 9-0 and Brindza is no exception.  I suspect he will continue to improve and continue to score points in critical situations.  Go Irish!
